Little man takes after his mother and decided to be fashionably late. Which was fine by me because I had hoped it would work out for my midwife, Amanda, to be there and she was out of town the weekend before. So, the week before he was due we went on lots of walks, ate the eggplant parmigiano at Scalini's and ate spicy foods hoping that he would decide to come by his due date. Then, as the weekend approached and no sign of baby, I basically just sat on the couch hoping Baby B would hold off until Sunday afternoon. Baby B kept us guessing on when he/she would join us.
Finally, it was time!
I woke up at 3am on September 28th with a cramp in my tummy. I woke Josh up to tell him I didn't feel good, but didn't know if it was anything or not ... why suffer alone, right? After a few minutes, the pain started coming and going... yay - the contractions were starting! Josh packed and I got ready and called Amanda at 4:30am (I felt terrible for waking her up) who told me to relax at home and time the contractions. They pretty much were all over the place, from 3-8 minutes apart. They were not too bad, I could pretty much wiggle and squirm my way through them. But, I must admit that they were worse when they were in my back - ouch. We stayed home until 7:45am and then headed to the hospital.
Once we got there and were admitted, we settled into the delivery room. Unfortunately Amanada had office duty, so she was only able to come and check on us during her down times. But, we had another great midwife, Mary, that was there with us and wonderful nurses. I had to make the decision on if I wanted an epidural - of course, it took me forever to decide but thankfully I went with getting one. I won't go through all of the details, but the highlights include a 3 minute long contraction that made baby's heartbeat drop and I had to get oxygen, 45 minutes of pushing, Amanda making it in time for the actual delivery and Josh making the annoucement "It's a Boy!"
Weaver Allen Bartlett was born at 5:29pm on September 28, 2010. He was 21 inches long and 8 lbs 7 oz. And, absolutely perfect!
