The first 13 weeks

Unfortunately, I was not lucky enough to say that I felt great during my first trimester. It was not terrible, but definitely not great.
I thought it would be beneficial to capture my learnings. That way, when I am newly pregnant with baby #2 I will know what is normal (maybe)...because I feel like I've second guessed everything to this point.
1) Brushing my teeth is dangerous! I've yet to figure out what triggers it, but for the last few months brushing my teeth is my least favorite time of day. I've heard from some mom's that this will not go away until after the baby arrives. Yikes! But don't worry - I'm not skipping my daily brushes....I just don't look forward to them.
2) Carsickness is back! When I was little, I would alway get sick from riding in the car. I would get sick riding over the moutain for ballgames, going on family vacations...pretty much, all the time. It was not really fun for my parents; well, now Josh gets to enjoy it. I can't even make it the hour drive to my parents house in the passenger seat without having to switch drivers half way through. And, there have been moments where we have to roll the windows down and turn on the air conditioner just to make it home. Sorry honey, hopefully I'll soon be out of this phase.
3) Before I knew I was "knocked up", I was pretty sure that every stress induced illness had hit me at once. We were going through a few major changes at work, so when my skin became very dry & itchy and my tummy started constantly cramping, I just knew that I had shingles (again) and stomach issues. I didn't catch on to my symptoms until I retook a pregnancy test (the first one I took was negative, so it was almost 3 weeks later when I took a second one).
4) Nightime nausea and swelling hit right around 6 or 7 weeks. I didn't feel like eating, even though it probably would have helped me feel much better. I'm still having to learn this lesson. Luckily, this has gotten so much better.
Thankfully, most of these crazy feelings got much better when I hit 14 weeks. I'm sure I'll have a ton of new feelings/symptoms to learn, but I'm happy to be out of the first trimester.

  1. Congratulations!

Pregnancy is rough! But I loved brushing my teeth. It would make me sick if I didn't.
